Case study on the relationship between the philosophy of “health and productivity management” and framework operation

<Abstract>

This study examines how the philosophy of health and productivity management (HPM) is applied in its operational practices within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Previous studies have primarily focused on individual initiatives, while the influence of organizational philosophy on employee behavior has received limited attention.

Based on previous studies in human resource management (HRM), this paper developed a three-element framework consisting of program design, organizational culture, and psychological acceptance. Using this framework, a SCAT-based qualitative analysis was conducted on 40 SMEs certified under HPM.

 The results of case studies suggest that the integration of the three elements—program design, organizational culture, and psychological acceptance—facilitates the implementation of the philosophy of HPM in the workplace through their interrelated influences, thereby enhancing both practical application and employees’ voluntary engagement.

The results also suggest that, based on institutional design, combining organizational culture with psychological factors increases the effectiveness, sustainability, and external impacts of HPM.

These findings highlight the effectiveness of a comprehensive approach to embedding HPM philosophy into practice and offer useful suggestions for organizational management in SMEs.
